LANA

Stewart + Stewart recently completed this stunning interior design project at the landmark Finger Wharf on Sydney harbour, nestled amongst private yachts + enjoying breathtaking views of the newly completed NSW Art Gallery and Botanic Gardens. A loft apartment from the original development has been completely transformed into a vibrant new space for a dynamic young couple, while paying homage to the site's unique heritage features.

The design intent was to move seamlessly from the spectacular timber rafters of the historic atrium into the apartment's living spaces. This was achieved through the extensive use of rhythmic bar patterns and the considered intersecting of original + replica beams with iron bracings.

Key architectural updates included dramatically reconfiguring the apartment layout to open almost every space to the panoramic views from the expansive windows and skylights. The luxurious Master Suite now spans the full width of the mezzanine level, an elevated sanctuary swathed in bleached Belgian linens + natural textural finishes. The tiling selections mimic weathered boards + the linear shadowing of the corrugated roofing profile, visible from the bathing area, celebrating this iconic Australian vernacular.

Zinc + steel finishes were introduced to brace the joinery and furnishings, with bronze mirrored walls to echo the industrial heritage elements. Grainy leathers, distressed timbers, natural stones, state of the art fixtures + furnishings were selected to enhance and reflect the client's lifestyle.

Stewart + Stewart’s commitment to bespoke craftsmanship, attention to detail + exceptional quality resulted in a residence that thoughtfully melds the heritage architecture with contemporary living. This Finger Wharf loft is a masterclass in modern luxury, a benchmark in interior design in one of Sydney’s most unique and prestigious locations.
